START SOMETHING AWESOME
CONNECT
Over 40 Faculty and staff across Grounds are here to help you navigate your journey
Also, a universe of student organizations create community and connections to other students interested in entrepreneurship. With over 20,000 founders, the UVA alumni network is a strong platform for even further connections.
BUILD
With over twenty maker spaces across Grounds, you will find the tools that you need
3D printing, scanning, CNC and laser cutting, metal and wood working, recording, robotics, virtual reality and more. MakerGrounds is a tremendous resource for finding and learning about Makerspaces, Shops, Labs, and other spaces for making at the University of Virginia—such as the FabLab at the Architecture School, the Scholar Labs TinkerTank, the Darden School's iLab, the Robertson Media Lab, the Lacy Student Experiential Center or elsewhere.
FUND
The UVA Entrepreneurship Cup offers over $100,000 in awards to catalyze your big idea
Additionally, the $10 million Seed Fund, operated by the Licensing and Ventures Group, supports new ventures emerging from the UVA research portfolio. The Galant Challenge connects seed and early-stage ventures from the UVA community with potential investors. Beyond UVA, a network of angel groups and venture funds invest real capital in high potential companies.
LEARN
There are over 75 entrepreneurship courses across the University
Undergraduates often start with the Startup Class (ENTP 1010) while grad students often begin their journey with Starting New Ventures or Entrepreneurial Thinking. You can pursue a Minor in Entrepreneurship or gain experience through the Patent and Entrepreneurial Law clinics.
LAUNCH
Whether you are ready to launch your own company or simply work on an interesting project, there's a place for you
The iLab Incubator program, approaching its 25th year in operation, provides grant support, workspace, mentorship and more. The Licensing and Ventures Group partners with faculty, researchers, and investors to bring innovations discovered at UVA to the marketplace. In town, the 434 accelerator supports early-stage, innovation-based companies based in Charlottesville area.
