Launch Competition - Deadlines & Requirements


Submission Requirements for March 26 Deadline

The Launch! Competition reflects the practices and requirements of investors today. As such, a traditional “plan” is not required. Your submission should include the following:

One page executive summary (see Resources section for examples)

10 – 15 page PowerPoint, including:

  • Clear description of the product or service being offered
  • Discussion of the market for this product or service
  • Outline of the business model and value proposition
  • Discussion of what you’ve done to de-risk your business, and an outline of the next steps for you and your team
  • Overview of the management team
  • Optional: Projected financials
  • Optional: Video “elevator” pitch (2 – 5 minutes)

Participants should be able to speak to the sales cycle, price point, product distribution, competitive advantages, and barriers to entry.  Please Upload your submissions via YouNoodle using the following format for labeling your documents: VentureName_LastName_Launch.doc. 

The slides you submit do NOT have to be the slides you use for the final competition. 

Final Competition Requirements 

If you are selected as a finalist for the Launch Competition, you will be notified via email on Thursday, April 1 by 5PM EDT. All finalists will be required to submit a video pitch by 11:59PM on Sunday, April 4, 2021. Judges will watch the video pitches prior to the interviews.8 minute interviews (1 minute pitch followed by Q&A) will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2021 between 4:30PM and 6:30PM EDT. Finalists will be contacted via email to determine their preferred time slot for interviews.

Video Expectations:

  • 5 minutes answering the judging criteria found here:
  • We understand your team may not be together in person, so you can piece together different teammates presenting into one 5 minute video
  • Not everyone on your team is required to be a part of the video portion
  • Only current UVA students are able to participate in the video
  • An email will be sent to all finalists requesting they send their video as a URL link
  • Your video will be posted publicly on the UVA Entrepreneurship Cup webpage prior to the competition but will be removed after the competition. The link will be shared with people who sign up to “attend” the competition virtually.

Interview Expectations:

  • 8 minutes total per team: 1 minute (maximum) elevator pitch followed by Q&A
  • Elevator pitch requirements: 1 minute (maximum) with no screen sharing or slides
  • Interviews will take place via Zoom. Please make sure you have video and sound enabled on your laptop
  • You will be given a time slot based on your preferences between 4:30PM and 6:30PM EDT on April 8, 2021
  • Your entire team does NOT have to be present
  • Only current UVA students are able to present during Q&A

E-Cup Timeline:

April 1, 2021
Finalists are selected and notified by 5:00PM EDT via email 

April 4, 2021
11:59PM EDT: 5 minute video presentations are due for judges to review prior to interviews

April 8, 2021
4:30PM - 6:30PM EDT:
Interview with Judges 8 minutes total per team:1 minute (maximum) elevator pitch followed by Q&A via Zoom; Announcement of winners to follow
